The morning before Maria’s first day at her new job, a burglar had broken into her home. Maria had initially acted in self-defense, but as the burglar fled she hit him in the head with a baseball bat, accidentally killing him. Given the nature of the situation, she knew she was subject to go to prison for murder. She had to get rid of the body and fast, but she knew she couldn’t risk the suspicion of missing her first day of work on the day of the crime. Acting fast, Maria decided to have her 18-year-old son go to work as her – that way, she could properly dispose of the body during the day while she was at her job – the entire office could be her alibi that she was at work instead of on her way to the coast to dump a body. Rather than see his mother be caught and go to jail, Tony reluctantly agreed to help. After dressing him up in her best-fitting work clothes, she dropped him off to cover for her and headed off to the pier. What Maria hadn’t counted on, however, was that her employer was implementing a new retinal identification scan for their new employees. They were cheaper than ID badges, hassle-free, and most importantly, impossible to forge. Tony was scanned in as Maria, and as such, his eyes had to be the ones to register his mother at work every day.
When Tony returned home that day, he explained the situation and suggested she just quit. But Maria knew how suspicious that would look. Instead, she asked him to just keep up the act until she could think of something – it was his summer break and she promised she would come up with a plan soon. That was two weeks ago. The police had since called Maria and asked to drop in at her work next week and check her attendance record – it would be clean thanks to Tony’s daily sacrifice, but Maria feared he might not be convincing enough to the authorities. Now she was asking Tony to get breast implants instead of silicone forms to make him more passable. He saw where it was going and had no desire to become his mother’s twin sister but he felt that if he didn’t, she might take matters into her own hands…
